The National Honor Society has been apart of Whitewater High School since 1956 and recently held their 60th induction ceremony. According to Mrs.Sonmor-Wintz “The officers want to help the student body learn more about NHS and the criteria for selection. They want to inspire students at NHS to develop outstanding leadership, character, scholarship, service and involvement in school activities”. This quote was one of the reasons behind NHS’s dress up week and winter assembly. After a week of dress up days where each day theme had a meaning behind them, such as blue and yellow day because those are the National Honors Society colors, the NHS held an assembly in the the auditorium. Each one of the officers of NHS gave a short speech about the pillars of National Honor Society. In an interview with Whitney Treder she spoke about how NHS “is not just about being on the high honor roll, it’s about having fun.” Also that as her role as NHS president, she helped put this week together by helping round everyone up together a few weeks beforehand to make this week possible. To begin the assembly each of the NHS officers opened with a short speech about the pillars of NHS. A thing that I like about the assembly is when students were asked to stand where any club or sport was announced. In the end almost the whole auditorium was standing and those who didn’t stand were encourage to find something to be apart during the rest of the school year. Next seven teachers were asked to chose certain students who go above and beyond what is asked of them. Four seniors, four juniors and two sophomore were brought up on stage where a teacher explained how they make Whitewater High School a better place. To make things even better for the students they all received a ten dollar gift card to the sweet spot. On saturday a Sadie Hawkins dance was held. All students were welcome and tickets were sold throughout the week. When asked about the dance Mrs.Sonomor-Wintz replied “A dance is the best way to end a fun week that I can think of”.
