Homecoming. The yearly event that much of the student body looks forward to. Students get to perform with friends during Lip Sync, watch the powder puff football game, dress up during the week for theme days, and go to the Friday night homecoming football game. And to top it all off, they can get all dressed up, take pictures with their friends and dates, go to dinner, and dance with friends on the night of the homecoming dance.
This years’ homecoming week was definitely a week to remember. Ms. Laura Masbruch, math and Computer Science teacher (and the freshman advisor for homecoming) said, “Homecoming has been going GREAT this year! The students are really into it, and sophomores and seniors have quite a battle going on for points. I was in the Student Services office this morning watching the money pour in for the penny war. It was awesome!” The theme for homecoming was “Night on the Town”. Ms. Masbruch told us how the theme was chosen, “Each May after new class leaders [Student Council members] are selected, we have a Homecoming Committee meeting to select the theme. By selecting the theme in May, classes can start planning their hallways decorations and Lip Sync over the summer if they choose.” As expected, the events were a major part of homecoming. On Monday, the seniors took the big win in the Powderpuff Football game against the freshman, 14-0. Juniors defeated the freshman 12-6 in a deadly overtime. The seniors vs. the sophomores had a great game, especially with the rivalry between those two classes. Wednesday the 4th was Lip Sync. Juniors came in last at fourth place, freshman came in third place, seniors came in second, and the first place winners for Lip Sync were the sophomores. After Lip Sync was the introduction of the homecoming court. The final event for Wednesday was the traditional burning of the W. Friday the 6th was a great school day to end on. There was Circle Bash, where students spent money on food sold by each school club or group. All the money that was earned by each club will help fund their own club. Volleyball went well, and the guys had a lot of fun participating in it. Almost Anything Goes was a great activity to both watch and participate in. At the end of the school day, the scores from all the events were tallied up, and the week long battle among the classes ended. Freshman placed third, and the juniors placed fourth. In the end, the seniors came out on top, after a weeklong struggle with the sophomores, who placed second. And last but not least, the Saturday dance. It was a great time for those who were there, with great music to listen and dance to. An amazing end to an amazing week. All in all, homecoming week was a success. If this year is any indication, homecoming will be an event to look forward to at Whitewater for years to come. Thank you to everyone who showed their school spirit and made Homecoming 2017 a week to remember.
